if there is is there a middleground music atleast
There’s definitely a middle ground with artists like Tech N9ne, The Roots, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Wale, and even some less popular mainstream-sounding rappers like Cassidy, Jadakiss, Papoose, etc.
They’re not mainstream because casual fans and people who just listen to top 40 probably haven’t heard of them. But they’re generally well known to hip-hop fans and no one really sees them as underground.

No but you can consider overground commercial radio garbage and middle ground would be like Jay-Z and Nas because You hear them on the radio and they have skills.
Underground-Real Hip Hop
Your "Middleground" is considered IMO-Real Hip Hop artists who make albums and their most commercial song is a #1 hit while the rest of the album is much better. example: On the Untitled Album by Nas, Hero and Make The World Go Round were considered his best songs on the album. I strongly disagree with that, but it has a radio sound, but Nas is much deeper than that. In a way it promotes his album because back in the 90’s Illmatic would sell. Today it would be behind a New Boyz or Lil Wayne album by 500,000 sells. Sad Shiiitt
